The sportsman is located on the fringe of Amberley Known as “the pearl of the south downs” whose many thatched cottages and pretty gardens lend immense charm whilst its antiquity is highlighted by its Norman church and castle.
The Amberley wildbrooks and the river Arun are a must for birdwatchers, whose stay can be enhanced by a trip to the RSPB’s important site at Pulborough or the Wild life and Wetlands Trust at Arundel.
Parham house, an Elizabethan masterpiece, set
in it own highly prized gardens and deer park is
located within two miles.
Amberley working museum is situated by the
mainline railway station (a short walk)
The roman villa at Bignor has extensive remains
of original buildings and mosaics (four miles).
Arundel with it s famous castle and boasting a myriad of little antique shops and markets and for those that enjoy trout fishing there’s Chalk spring fisheries.
Horse Racing at Fontwell ( eight miles) and of course Goodwood (twelve miles), which also has motor racing and classic car events.
Historic town of Chichester (14 miles) offering fabulous shopping opportunities, a magnificent Cathedral and the celebrated Festival Theatre,

We are proud to have been awarded CAMRA country pub of the year 2009 and Pub of the year 2010 for the Arun and Adur area.
Having three bar areas and a conservatory restaurant, boasting of one of the best views in sussex of the Amberley wild brooks, and seating outside on the deck or in the gardens. Food is served through out.
Real Ales are predominantly from local breweries such as Harvey’s (Lewes), Dark Star (Partridge Green) and Langhams (Lodsworth nr Petworth).
The sportsman has printed menu containing Traditional pub meals meals ,light bites, panini’s and ciabbattas backed up with various delights from the special boards. All produce is locally sourced.
In addition to the pub The Sportsman has five guest rooms, three double and two twins, all en suite with shower and toilets offering comfortable accommodation and a Hearty English or continental breakfast. Ideal for walkers or cyclists follwing the South Downs way or holidaying guests exploring the many delights of the Arun Valley and beyond.
